What We Remember

One day when we were in Mrs. Audrey’s Distributive Ed. Class, a bunch of kids from Bryan Adams came through the horseshoe honking horns and burning rubber. After a couple of passes, Mrs. Audrey had had enough and she said, “You boys get out there and put a stop to that." In no time, we had piled out of the classroom and jumped into our own cars. Of course, by this time the B.A. kids had left, but that didn’t stop us from making a few passes through the horseshoe, burning rubber. ~Joe Bearden

I have strange memories of the school building, not particularly of how it looked but classrooms…the feel of concrete, masonry, wood and steel…noisy heat radiators with painted enamel finish…I can still hear the bells ringing…announcing the end of one class, the beginning of another…I can hear the rush of footsteps…hallways filled with inaudible conversations… ~Mike Barnes

…I’ve gone down memory lane all the way back to my early childhood days, climbing trees in our old Avalon neighborhood with Lee Russell, Steve Hughes, Mark Lund and Charlie Taylor. ~John Reed

…the day there was a sub in study hall, an older lady. The kids got unruly and threw paper airplanes at her. Everyone got her disoriented and distracted by moving her desk. During all of this, Larry England slipped out of study hall, ran down the 3 flights of stairs and laid on the front lawn like he had fallen out of the window. Somebody yelled at the lady to look…that it was her fault for not keeping the class in line. She practically fainted. ~Mike Looney
